Volunteer to prepare taxes
We need your help to
prepare tax returns for tax payers in your County.
Your contribution will help bring thousands of hard earned dollars back
into the budgets of low-moderate income individuals and families, and
eventually, back into the community.
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program was developed to assist tax
filers in preparing tax returns for FREE. With the help of certified volunteers
we can maximize credits such as the Earned
Income Tax Credit (EITC) to obtain the highest refund possible.
As a Tax Preparer
Volunteer:
· You
will receive IRS tax preparation training and certification
· Help
low-moderate income
workers prepare their tax return and maximize tax credits
· Provide
tax filers with a copy of their return with an explanation of the forms and
credits they qualified for
· Assess
other financial needs of the participants and assist or refer them to the
appropriate providers
· Ongoing
support & guidance from Site Coordinator
As an Intake Volunteer:
· You
will attend volunteer training to familiarize yourself with the VITA program and
process
· Welcome
tax filers to the VITA site
· Assist
in the preparation of the IRS intake form
· Manage
the registration and intake process
· Provide
or refer to appropriate agencies for other services as needed
By volunteering you can
enhance your résumé with tax preparation and volunteer experience.
It also allows you to apply your training to real world situations while
providing a free service to hard working tax payers in need of your help. Free
tax training and certification can be taken in a classroom setting or online at
your convenience.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is
supported by The Internal Revenue Service and operated at multiple sites donated
by local businesses and
social service organizations.
